Background

Creative Thing Ltd was formed in 2003 by David Yates following 25 years experience in design and marketing both client and agency side. David has held positions with BP, Schlumberger, Rohan and Karrimor. He has designed for clients such as Egg and the Royal Bank of Scotland, Daewoo, Sharp Electronics, Sony, HiTec Sports and others.

In 2003, Creative Thing spotted a gap for ‘proper’ communication design in a market obsessed with superficial styling. Our objective was and is, to provide a business critical type of creative design consultancy and deliver graphic design services that do a job.

Communication is the artery between a business and its marketplace. But too often that appears to be more art than artery. It is clear to us that while styling has its place, it is only a part of a broader communication mix. We saw an opportunity to approach graphic design services and design marketing tools in the same way that you might design a good product. As creative design consultants, we seek to design in an integrated way, across print and the web, from advertising and brochures to the web and exhibitions. We establish a defined objective, a business case and a process to underpin the work. We research our customers’ customers. We look at the world through their eyes and thereby deliver marketing tools properly designed to be relevant, compelling and essential to the end user.

Creative thing is an accredited supplier of graphic and web design services through business Link. Based in Worcestershire in the West Midlands, this gives our local clients access to many government and European funding streams. This often allows Creative Thing to introduce government funding of up to 50% for many client projects in Worcestershire and the West Midlands.

Historically we have a broad background in design. We have designed everything from award winning print design and advertising. We have created web systems and sites for companies such as Egg and the Bank of Scotland. And we have designed life saving mountaineering gear for companies such as Karrimor and Rohan.

We are responsible for the groundbreaking Startershop, £199 ecommerce tool. We have also worked with companies as small as one-man start-ups through to the MOD, Pfizer and Sony.
